GREG PLISKA is an award-winning composer and orchestrator for film, television, theater and media.
His film orchestrations include the BAFTA-winning documentary FLYING MONSTERS 3D (Best Music for a Feature Documentary, Park City Film Festival), KINGDOM OF PLANTS 3D (Best Documentary Score, 2013 International Film Music Festival), and GALAPAGOS 3D, all featuring Sir David Attenborough. He orchestrated the Liam Neeson-narrated Everest film THE WILDEST DREAM (Best Original Score for a Feature Documentary nomination, International Film Music Critics Association) and the upcoming Universal Pictures release THE LITTLE RASCALS. He contributed music and orchestrations to the Emmy-winning Discovery Channel series LIFE, as well as the Nova special HUNTING THE EDGE OF SPACE, and Discovery’s popular Shark Week presentation BLOOD IN THE WATER.
Greg’s short film scores include DIAGNOSIS (writer/dir. Coleman Hough), DEADLINE (writer/dir. Stacey Kelly), SILENT REMINDERS (writer/dir. Theresa Wu) and the multiple award-winning KIDDUSH MAN (writer/dir. Yitz Brilliant).
His music and orchestrations can be heard in commercials for Dupont, Liberty Mutual, and Ellesse as well as in new sonic rebranding for NBC Sports, The Golf Channel, Univision, CBS This Morning and Abbott Laboratories.
Greg’s theater work includes the Drama Desk nominated scores for Shakespeare in the Park productions of AS YOU LIKE IT (co-composed with Steve Martin) and TWELFTH NIGHT (with the band Hem), as well as COMEDY OF ERRORS. He is the musical director for the Tony-winning Broadway play WAR HORSE, and oversees all North American productions of the show, as well as the upcoming Japan/China tour. He has scored many off-Broadway productions, including VIGIL (Daryl Roth, producer), TWELFTH NIGHT / WINTER’S TALE (Juilliard), AS YOU LIKE IT / BECKETT LANDSCAPES (Williams College), the highly acclaimed Red Bull Theater production of PERICLES, and the Moss Hart Award-winning IN A LAKE OF FIRE. He was composer, orchestrator and asst. musical director for the New York Theater Workshop production of SONGS FROM AN UNMADE BED.
Greg’s opera THE SECRET GARDEN was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Opera Theater and co-written with Tony-nominated playwright David Ives.
Greg’s recorded work includes orchestrations for Carly Simon’s ROMULUS HUNT and arrangements for the popular indie-folk band HEM (including live marquee performances at Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series and with the Boston Pops), as well as collaborations with artists such as James Iha, Michael Stipe, Cat Power, Karen Elson and many others.
Greg was a participant in the Sundance Documentary Composers Lab, the ASCAP Buddy Baker Film Scoring Workshop and is an ASCAP and Opera America award/grant recipient.
